User Study Participants Needed
We are regularly running user studies at the SREAL where we investigate state-of-the-art virtual reality and augmented reality technologies, human-computer interfaces, and various applications. Participation in these studies is highly appreciated and a great way for students and members of the UCF community to learn about the technologies, research questions, and methods used in this field.
Current Studies—Open for Participation
We are currently recruiting participants for the following user study/studies. Please click the link(s) at the bottom to sign up.
- Title: Training in AR #2
Description: This is Part 2 of a series of experiments. If you participated for Part 1, you are still eligible for and we welcome your participation in this experiment! If you have any questions, please email the undersigned. The goal of this study is to investigate how aspects of augmented reality (AR) head-worn display (HWD) (e.g., the field of view of the display, the registration of virtual imagery to the real world) affect participants’ trust of the system and their situational awareness.
Duration: Up to 60 minutes.
Location: Lobby at the Institute for Simulation & Training Partnership III building.
Compensation: $15.
Requirements: Over age 18 years; Normal or corrected-to-normal vision without glasses/spectacles (contact lenses are fine); Member of the UCF community.
Exclusion Criteria: Pregnancy; Known epilepsy or a history of seizures; Neurological or motor impairments that would invalidate the ecologically valid cognitive or motor tasks in the experiments or the effective comparison of different methods; Color blindness, strong eye dominance, or night blindness; Adults who are unable to consent; Individuals who are not yet adults; Prisoners; Active duty U.S. Military.
Risks: Foreseeable risks or discomforts involved in taking part in this study are minimal. There is a small risk that you will develop what is referred to as simulator sickness. It occurs in some individuals who are exposed to prolonged (greater than 1 hour) continuous testing in simulated environments. Symptoms consist of nausea and a feeling of being light-headed. The risk is significantly minimized since your experience in the experiment does not require any simulated navigation/traveling. Another limited risk is breach of confidentiality, which is always a risk in data collection. We will minimize this risk by de-identifying all personally identifiable information during data collection as possible.
