About Austin:
Austin Erickson is an alumnus of the SREAL lab at the University of Central Florida. His dissertation research targets the intersection of visual perception, augmented reality optical see-through displays, and human-computer interaction. His work focuses on understanding the factors that influence user perception of virtual imagery shown on optical see-through displays, including the characteristics of the user’s viewing environment, the characteristics of the display, and the characteristics of the imagery being displayed. His work quantifies the effects that these factors have on the user’s ability to accurately distinguish imagery shown on the display, and presents a mathematical model that can be used to predict when the user is likely to experience difficulty perceiving virtual imagery as well as provide recommendations on how the imagery, display hardware, or the user’s environment can be changed to improve viewing conditions.
